INTRO
Introduction & demonstration on the Wheels of Steel.
PART 1
PRESENTATION: The roots and history of hip hop music. The rise of an alternative to the poverty, racism and crime in the Bronx.
DJ’ING – “see to be a DJ you gotta do your best, have your own kinda style not like the rest” dimples d, sucker DJ.
B-BOYING – “breaking, otherwise known as b-boying is a competitive, warlike dance making the opponent look bad” Doze (rock steady crew).
GRAFFITTI – an anonymous artform, seeking neither fame nor fortune.
MC’ING – “throw your hands in the air and wave ‘em like you just don’t care”.
BREAK – 10 mins – Take a break or talk to Selectah X and get the chance to experiment on the turntables.
PART 2
Split into 4 groups. Each group will get a 12 inch record and a copy of the lyrics. Working as a group, your job is to decipher the lyrics of the record and present it to the rest of the class. This needs to be done in english. You will then play the record for the class and explain what you think the record is about and the issues it relates to.
